I came to Sapporo 33 years ago. Six years later at age 50, I had my first medical consultation for back pain probably due to shoveling snow. As an American, I immediately sought a possible solution with a cash-hungry neighborhood high school student. However, as you might anticipate, Japanese culture erected barriers. Being in Hokkaido, I still have to shovel snow every winter. After reaching age 70, I’ve benefited from subsidized lower costs for medical treatment and rehabilitation. I wonder, in this aging society of Japan, how can the government continue to subsidize us, seniors?

Summary
Six participants plus the moderator and zoom host were present for this Let’s Chat. The format was casual, spontaneous and open-ended. All present preferred this atmosphere and all continued with the chat for the extra thirty minute period.
