Event Description

HMSC members and Hokkaido International School students explore how they can collaborate.

Summary
Active Aging Week, https://www.activeagingweek.com/, was started in 2003 to encourage seniors to participate in dancing, group walks, exercise classes, and other healthy activities.  Inspired by Active Aging Week, for the first time HMSC members and Hokkaido International School students and staff gathered at the school on Oct. 11th for their original Active Aging event.  Three generations of Hokkaido's international community came together to meet, learn about each other and have fun.  Timothy Schlosser, Head of H.I.S. and Kathleen Riggins, HMSC Chairperson, welcomed everyone to the joint event.  As an ice breaker, participants learned about each other as they played human bingo.  One highlight of the day was a student led tour of the school showing our HMSC group how much classes have changed since the school days of some 50+ years ago.  After dancing the Virginia Reel and the Hokey Pokey and playing the Farmer in the Dell, everyone relaxed with a group game of "baba nuki"--"old maid."  The festivities closed with everyone expressing hopes for more joint activities in the future.
